Ten Laws
Laying the Foundation
The Lord called to him out of the mountain and said, “Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob… These are the words that you shall speak to the people of Israel.” (Exodus 19:3–6)
In this part
At the beginning of your pathway is the question of direction: How do you stop love from running off the road? The Ten Commandments are not offered as arbitrary restrictions. They are given as love with guardrails—stone rails that protect worship, speech, family life, relationships, truth, desire, and time. These laws teach love how to live with priorities intact.
How it begins
In the wilderness, the fire burned strangely yet it was not consuming. Moses stood frozen on the slopes of Mount Horeb, facing the One who speaks holiness into silence.
A voice called him. “Moses, Moses!”
“Here I am.”
“Take off your sandals, for the place where you stand is holy ground.”
And in that moment, history changed. God was the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—He had seen His people’s suffering in Egypt, and He had chosen Moses to confront Pharaoh and lead Israel out of bondage.
Moses was not an ordinary man. Raised in Pharaoh’s palace, he also knew the pain of enslaved people. He fled Egypt, spent forty years as a shepherd in Midian, and learned quiet endurance in obscurity. Now God called him back—not with human power, but with divine authority.
“Let my people go.”
Pharaoh refused. Then judgment came—plagues that shook Egypt and released Israel. When Pharaoh pursued them with armies, Moses stood before the waters of the Red Sea. He lifted his staff. The sea parted. The slaves crossed on dry ground. And when the pursuing army followed, the waters returned, and freedom held.
Israel soon arrived at Sinai. Thunder rolled. Smoke billowed. God descended.
And Moses climbed into the cloud—alone—where he remained for forty days and forty nights. There he received something more enduring than gold: the Law. God inscribed the Ten Commandments to shape a covenant people—giving them justice, morality, worship, family life, and a way to live as a holy nation.
